Two AA rosettes awarded to Italian restaurant and bar Sapori for its accomplished cooking

The award comes as the Leicestershire venue celebrates its 10th anniversary.

A popular Italian restaurant is celebrating after being honoured with two AA rosettes.

Sapori Restaurant and Bar, at Anstey, has received the accolade in its 10th anniversary year.

According to The AA, this award is given to excellent restaurants that aim for and achieve higher standards and better consistency, where a great precision is apparent in the cooking, with obvious attention to the selection of quality ingredients.

The AA Inspector said that Sapori is “a place for accomplished cooking that runs the spectrum from Italian classics to dishes with an imaginative, contemporary spin“.

Sapori - Italian for 'flavours' - was opened by Luigi Riccardi, his sister Cristina Riccardi, and her husband, chef-patron Andrea Scarpati, in May 2011.

It aims to provide modern and elegant Italian fine dining, and each dish is created using the freshest seasonal ingredients.

The family-run restaurant was awarded its first single AA Rosette in 2018 and has featured in every Good Food Guide since 2014. It has also been recognised with the celebrated Michelin Plate recommendation.

“We continually strive to be the best in terms of both cooking and service,” said chef-patron Andrea Scarpati.

“Even during lockdown we have pivoted to provide a takeaway service of the highest quality so our guests could enjoy a little of that Sapori taste at home while the restaurant was closed. Now we are open to diners again and it is really the icing on the cake to receive such a prestigious award.”
